Fighting in the Shadows: The Untold Story of Deaf People in the Civil War: Monday, October 15, 7 pm Udicious Pavilion. Rush resident and professor emeritus at Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf, Dr. Harry Lang, will talk about his recently published book entitled: Fighting in the Shadows: The Untold Story of Deaf People in the Civil War. Dr. Lang has authored or co-authored nine books about deaf and hard-of-hearing scientists, performers, educators and writers. Join us as Dr. Lang talks about his research and explains how the American Civil War played an important role in bringing the country’s deaf population out of the shadows. Copies of his book will be available for purchase and signing. Co-sponsored by the Rush History Office and the Rush Historical Society.
